Ambassadori Island Batumi, a large-scale urban development on the Black Sea coast, has unveiled a comprehensive Smart City framework in collaboration with global engineering firm Arup, marking a key milestone in one of the region’s most ambitious urban projects. The announcement was made during MIPIM 2026 in Cannes, where the project was presented to international investors and urban development professionals as a model for sustainable coastal cities.
Transforming the Black Sea coastline through artificial island development
The project spans 84ha (207.5 acres), with over 48ha of land reclamation already completed. With more than $600m in investment committed by independent developers, Ambassadori Island Batumi is attracting global attention as a strategic development platform that combines infrastructure, residential, and commercial potential.

“The project is intended to create an urban environment where digital intelligence, sustainable infrastructure and efficient operations converge to support long-term development.” – Gocha Kamkia, CEO of Ambassadori Island Batumi
Integrating smart city principles for sustainable urban living
The collaboration with Arup centres on a holistic Smart City framework designed to integrate digital infrastructure, sustainability and operational management. The framework aims to create an urban environment that is resilient, adaptable and aligned with global best practices.
At the building level, digital twins, environmental monitoring and automated energy management systems are being implemented to enhance efficiency and operational control. At the plot and district scales, IoT networks, renewable energy systems and smart utilities are being integrated to support adaptive, data-driven urban management. Public spaces and community areas will also be equipped with district-wide platforms for real-time monitoring and management, ensuring an environment that responds dynamically to residents’ and visitors’ needs.
The project draws inspiration from leading smart cities such as Singapore and Amsterdam, bringing advanced technological solutions and sustainable urban design principles to the Black Sea region.
Global expertise driving local impact
Ambassadori Island Batumi is being developed by a highly experienced international team, including Arup for the Smart City framework and masterplan, SHoP Architects for twin skyscraper design, Yüksel Proje for engineering and construction, and Colliers for development planning and economic feasibility.
The project is positioned to become a hub for tourism, residential development and investment along Georgia’s coastline, setting a benchmark for future coastal urban developments in the region.
With the land formation largely complete and the Smart City roadmap now in motion, Ambassadori Island Batumi exemplifies how technology, sustainability and strategic planning can combine to create a next-generation urban environment.
