Nobu Hospitality has announced a 50-room hotel in San Juan, marking its first venture into Puerto Rico. The property is scheduled to open in 2028.
Plans for Nobu Hotel and Restaurant San Juan include a Nobu restaurant and bar at street level, plus a rooftop lounge and bar. The company says the hotel will reflect San Juan’s character and heritage while incorporating the brand’s contemporary aesthetic.
Trevor Horwell, CEO of Nobu Hospitality, cited Puerto Rico’s history, culture and hospitality as reasons for entering the market. He said the project would bring the company into one of the region’s historic neighbourhoods.
The hotel also plans to offer experiences introducing guests to Puerto Rico’s culture. The announcement does not describe these programmes or identify the exact site, architect or interior designer. Whether the project involves a new building or the adaptation of an existing property is also unspecified.
Nobu is not the only international hospitality brand planning a Puerto Rico debut. Hard Rock International announced an $850m hotel, casino and residential development in San Juan in February 2026. Designed by architecture firms Klai Juba Wald and CMA Architects, the new-build project is scheduled to open in 2029.
