meteoviva secures majority investment from Bregal Milestone to scale AI-led building energy platform

Bregal Milestone, a European software growth private equity firm, has announced a majority investment in meteoviva, a Germany-based provider of predictive and autonomous building energy management systems. The investment is intended to support meteoviva’s expansion across European markets and further development of its platform.

The investment comes as commercial real estate operators face increasing regulatory requirements related to energy performance and emissions, alongside growing interest in applying artificial intelligence (AI) to building operations.

Scaling an operational layer for building energy management

meteoviva’s platform combines a proprietary physics-based thermodynamic model with AI to manage energy systems in large-scale commercial buildings. The system is designed to optimise heating, cooling and ventilation, enabling energy cost reductions of up to 45% without requiring structural retrofits.

The company’s approach is based on nearly 15 years of thermodynamic modelling, supported by more than 14 million hours of operational data. This forms the basis of an autonomous control layer that continuously adjusts building systems in response to real-world conditions.

The platform is deployed across more than 500 buildings in 19 countries, covering approximately 11.5 million square metres of real estate. Its portfolio includes assets such as The Squaire at Frankfurt Airport, the BMW Group IT Centre in Munich, and the DC Tower in Vienna.

meteoviva is also the first provider in its category to receive certification from the German Sustainable Building Council.

Investment to support European expansion and platform development

According to the companies, the partnership will focus on expanding meteoviva’s presence across Europe, while continuing investment in its AI capabilities and autonomous control systems. The company also plans to broaden its solution suite for commercial real estate owners and operators.

Eric Giese, Managing Director at meteoviva, said the company’s focus has been on delivering measurable improvements in energy efficiency across different building types. He noted that the partnership would support further growth and help address increasing demand from institutional real estate owners dealing with regulatory complexity and energy price volatility.

Jan Bruennler, Co-Founder and Managing Partner at Bregal Milestone, highlighted meteoviva’s operational data, customer base and focus on outcome-based performance as key factors in the investment decision.
