McCarthy deploys Palantir AI platform to build a construction operating system

McCarthy Building Companies, one of the largest privately held construction firms in the US, is deploying Palantir Technologies’ artificial intelligence platform across its operations under a multi-year, multi-million-dollar agreement.

The rollout will cover activities ranging from project design and estimating to field execution, logistics, contracts, and equipment planning, bringing data and workflows from across the business into a single system.

The deployment centres on McCarthy’s AI Operations Suite, known as Pulse, which is built on Palantir’s Artificial Intelligence Platform (AIP).

Pulse is designed to provide project managers, superintendents, and field teams with real-time project information, scenario planning tools, risk analysis, and decision support capabilities. The system combines Palantir’s technology with McCarthy’s construction workflows through Palantir’s Ontology framework.

McCarthy said the platform is intended to help teams access information more quickly and spend less time working across multiple documents, emails, and data sources.

Rollout extends beyond the construction site

The platform will be used across estimating, bidding and buyout, contracts, quality assurance and quality control, logistics, equipment planning, and field operations.

McCarthy plans to connect those functions through the same data framework, allowing information generated in one area of the business to be used across others.

The initiative also includes continued development of software through McCarthy’s in-house applications team, supported by embedded engineering resources.

The platform will support operations from early-stage planning and design through to project delivery and on-site execution.
