Marriott International has signed an agreement with Egyptian real estate developers Misr Italia Properties and People & Places covering nine planned hospitality and branded residential properties across Egypt.

The portfolio comprises 1,580 hotel rooms and residences across five developments in Ras El Hekma, West Cairo, Ain Sokhna, and East Cairo. The proposed properties would carry The Ritz-Carlton, The Luxury Collection, and Autograph Collection brands.

The agreement was signed at the government headquarters in New Alamein City in the presence of Egypt’s prime minister, Mostafa Madbouly, tourism and antiquities minister Sherif Fathy, and housing, utilities, and urban communities minister Randa El-Menshawy.

Four of the nine properties covered by the agreement will be located within two coastal developments in Ras El Hekma, east of Alexandria.

The Med Ras El Hekma, a beachfront community by People & Places, is planned to include a 170-room Ritz-Carlton hotel and 268 Ritz-Carlton Residences.

At Misr Italia Properties’ Solare Ras El Hekma development, the plans comprise a 180-room Autograph Collection hotel and 250 branded residences carrying the same brand.

The two Ras El Hekma developments together account for 868 of the hotel rooms and residences covered by the agreement.

A Luxury Collection hotel is planned for The Hills of One, a mixed-use development by People & Places in Sphinx City, West Cairo. It would comprise 180 hotel rooms alongside 180 residences.

An Autograph Collection hotel and branded residences are also proposed at Kai Sokhna Red Sea, Misr Italia Properties’ beachfront development in Ain Sokhna. The property would comprise an 80-room hotel and 172 residences.

At Garden 8 in East Cairo, the agreement covers a 100-room Autograph Collection hotel without an accompanying branded residential component.

Across the five developments, the portfolio totals 710 hotel rooms and 870 residences.

The deal follows an earlier agreement between Marriott and Misr Italia Properties for Marriott Executive Apartments and Westin Residences at Il Bosco in Egypt’s New Administrative Capital. Including those projects, the companies said their combined portfolio now exceeds 1,800 hotel rooms and branded residences.

Shady Hassan, vice-president of development for North Africa at Marriott International, described Egypt as a strategic growth market for the company, citing its tourism sector, infrastructure development, and demand for premium hotels and branded residences.

Misr Italia Properties and People & Places said their wider hospitality expansion plans involve investment exceeding EGP 56.7bn ($1.12bn) and are expected to create approximately 6,000 direct and indirect jobs. The developers are working towards a portfolio of about 50 hospitality assets by 2037 and aim to welcome approximately 373,000 tourists a year.

No development schedules or anticipated opening dates were disclosed for the nine newly announced properties.
