A luxury waterfront estate in Florida has been purchased by Gabe Newell for $70.8 million, the Wall Street Journal reported.
The Valve co-founder is said to have acquired a newly built ultra-luxury residence in Manalapan, a narrow coastal enclave in Palm Beach County known for high-value waterfront holdings with direct access to both the Atlantic Ocean and the Intracoastal Waterway. The home spans roughly 20,000ft2 and sits on about two acres of land positioned between the two water bodies.
The property was brought to market through Premier Estate Properties, a high-end boutique real estate brokerage specialising in ultra-prime waterfront estates in Florida.

The site was originally tied to a waterfront land acquisition of approximately $39m in 2020 before being redeveloped into a full-scale coastal compound and brought to market through a South Florida luxury brokerage. The project reflects a wider pattern in the region, where land banking and redevelopment continue to drive significant value uplift across rare ocean-to-intracoastal parcels.
The residence is oriented around water access, with dock infrastructure and a layout that enables movement across both inland and ocean-facing sides of the site. The configuration reflects broader development trends in South Florida’s ultra-prime coastal market, where scarcity of buildable waterfront land has led to increasingly engineered designs prioritising privacy, access, and marine circulation.

The transaction reflects a recent wave of high-end deals in Manalapan, where trophy waterfront holdings have seen sustained demand from ultra-high-net-worth buyers seeking low-density coastal compounds.
Valve Corporation, which Newell co-founded, remains the primary source of his wealth through the Steam digital distribution platform. Forbes estimates his net worth at around $11bn as of 2026. The reported acquisition becomes a small fraction of his overall fortune, though notable within a tightly held luxury micro-market.

Newell has not publicly commented on the transaction, and the deal has not been independently confirmed by him or his representatives.
