Long & Foster Companies, a US residential real estate brokerage and home-services group, has appointed Daniel Dennis as president and CEO, succeeding Patrick Bain.
Dennis joins from RE/MAX, where he most recently served as senior vice president of sales and service. His role included supporting brokerages in company-owned US regions and the company’s expansion, while overseeing a sales team responsible for franchise growth through sales, conversions, mergers and acquisitions.
He is also returning to the HomeServices of America group. Earlier in his career, Dennis spent more than a decade leading Roberts Brothers, a HomeServices brokerage in Alabama, before becoming president of Illustrated Properties Real Estate in South Florida.
RE/MAX described Illustrated Properties as a leading luxury brokerage when it hired Dennis in 2025. During his tenure as president, he grew the business to more than 600 associates across 21 offices.
Dennis returns to HomeServices
Dennis will lead Long & Foster’s residential brokerage and work with regional and local management as well as executives across the company’s affiliated businesses.
Founded in 1968 and headquartered in Fairfax, Virginia, Long & Foster serves markets across Virginia, Maryland, Washington DC, West Virginia, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Delaware and New Jersey.
Its wider group also provides mortgage, title, insurance, inspection, moving, settlement and property management services.
Long & Foster is a founding affiliate of Leading Real Estate Companies of the World, which includes Luxury Portfolio International, and is also a member of Forbes Global Properties.
Just before Dennis’s appointment, the company expanded its Forbes Global Properties membership into North Carolina. Announced on 25 September, the move added the state to the territories where Long & Foster exclusively represents the luxury real estate network, extending a relationship that began in 2022.
Long & Foster said its North Carolina agents would gain access to Forbes Global Properties-branded marketing resources and additional referral opportunities.
Patrick Bain steps down after 16 years
Dennis succeeds Patrick Bain, who is stepping down after 16 years with Long & Foster, including three and a half years as president and CEO.
Bain informed HomeServices of his decision earlier this year. He and Dennis will work together over the coming weeks during the transition.
During Bain’s time as chief executive, Long & Foster continued investing in technology, integrated services and its wider business as the US residential real estate industry went through significant change.
Long & Foster continues investment in technology and services
Long & Foster said it is continuing to invest in technology, integrated real estate services and new capabilities for agents and consumers.
HomeServices of America, Long & Foster’s parent company, operates across residential brokerage, mortgage, title and insurance. Through HSF Affiliates, it also operates the Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices real estate brokerage franchise network.
HomeServices is owned by Berkshire Hathaway Energy, a consolidated subsidiary of Berkshire Hathaway.
HomeServices president and CEO Chris Kelly said Dennis’s background spans brokerage leadership, team and business development, luxury real estate and national industry experience.
Dennis said his initial focus would include spending time across Long & Foster’s markets with agents, employees and local leaders.
