Israel-based Buildots, a construction progress-tracking platform, has added laser scans to help teams compare on-site work with building plans. Developed with Germany-based NavVis, a manufacturer of scanning equipment and software, the feature lets users verify dimensions, clearances and installation positions within Buildots.
The scans are intended for projects where space is tightly planned, including data centres, hospitals and semiconductor fabrication plants, where computer chips are manufactured.
Teams can upload scans from NavVis equipment or any scanner that produces E57 files, a standard format for 3D scan data. NavVis IVION displays the scans in Buildots, where teams can compare them with building information modelling (BIM) data, the digital model used to coordinate construction.
The addition follows a separate Buildots launch in July that extended progress tracking to structural work using drone and 360° camera imagery.
Buildots says the laser scan feature is available to all customers and is currently used on some large projects, such as Intel’s semiconductor plant construction. Intel had previously used Buildots, and a case study noted that each plant comprised over 50,000 construction activities.
