Bosch targets small US commercial buildings with SkyQ HVAC automation system

Bosch SkyQ

Bosch Home Comfort Group, a provider of heating, ventilation and air-conditioning (HVAC) systems, has launched SkyQ, an HVAC control system for small and medium-sized commercial buildings in the US.

SkyQ connects rooftop HVAC units, sensors, thermostats and other field devices via a central platform. Building operators can use it to monitor and control equipment without a conventional building automation system (BAS), which provides centralised control of building systems.

Commercial buildings of 50,000ft2 or less account for 95% of all commercial buildings in the US, according to a 2024 study cited by Bosch. The study found that only 13% of buildings in this size range had a BAS.

SkyQ is designed to work with both new and existing light-commercial HVAC systems.

Centralised HVAC control for smaller buildings

SkyQ provides a single interface for viewing HVAC energy use and equipment performance, with dashboards and mobile access for remote monitoring.

Built-in monitoring detects faults and provides equipment performance data. When a problem occurs, the system pinpoints it and sends a notification.

SkyQ is pre-programmed to connect to new R-454B and existing R-410A packaged and split HVAC systems with smart equipment controls. R-454B and R-410A are refrigerants used in air-conditioning and heat-pump equipment.

Bosch has been transitioning its air-conditioning and heat-pump equipment from R-410A to R-454B as US rules restrict the use of refrigerants with higher global warming potential in new equipment. R-454B cannot be used as a replacement in equipment designed for R-410A.

The pre-programmed controls also simplify installation and commissioning, the process of verifying that building systems are correctly set up and operate as intended. Technicians can standardise equipment settings and view individual rooftop units via the SkyQ interface.

Zoning and wireless controls support retrofits

For zoned applications, individual controllers can maintain separate airflow and temperature control across different parts of a building in line with real-time demand.

SkyQ also offers wireless connectivity with a line-of-sight range of up to 2,000ft, providing an option for installations where control wiring is difficult.

Bosch says graphics and cloud connectivity are included at no extra cost or subscription fee.

The SkyQ launch follows the expansion of Bosch’s US commercial HVAC range. In February 2026, the company introduced commercial rooftop heating and cooling units for mid-sized and larger commercial buildings.

SkyQ is now available and includes a three-year parts warranty and controls support.
