Infrastructure AI push continues as Bentley Systems opens Québec City engineering hub

Bentley Systems, which develops software fpr infrastructure professionals to design, build, and operate assets such as transportation networks, water systems, and cities, has opened a new technology hub in Québec City as part of its global research and development footprint.

The move adds a dedicated centre focused on applied artificial intelligence and digital twin development, positioning the location as one of the company’s key R&D sites worldwide.

The new hub will function as a strategic development base for the company, with a focus on advancing AI-driven approaches to infrastructure engineering. It brings together teams working across geospatial, geotechnical, and civil engineering disciplines, with an emphasis on improving how infrastructure data is used across project lifecycles.

Bentley Systems stated that the location will contribute to addressing increasing global demand for more resilient infrastructure, particularly in areas linked to economic growth, energy access, and climate-related pressures. The company noted that AI is expected to play a central role in improving engineering productivity within these domains.

R&D expansion and hiring plans

The Québec City hub becomes one of five core global R&D locations for Bentley Systems. The company plans to invest nearly C$10m in the facility and expand its local workforce by close to 60%, as it scales operations in the region.

According to Bentley Systems, the centre is intended to strengthen applied AI capabilities while supporting collaboration across different engineering specialisms. The company also indicated that it is actively hiring for multiple roles as part of the expansion.

Francois Valois, Senior Vice President at Bentley Open Applications, will lead the local office. He noted that the expansion is aimed at strengthening engagement with Québec City’s technology and academic ecosystem, and creating closer links between education and infrastructure-focused engineering careers.

Carl Viel, President and CEO of Québec International, said the investment reflects international confidence in the region’s technology and AI capabilities, and pointed to continued reinvestment by existing subsidiaries operating in the area.

The announcement places Québec City within Bentley Systems’ broader global R&D network, where the company continues to develop software focused on infrastructure design, delivery, and asset performance using digital twin technologies.
