The winners of the 2026 BIP Global Interior Design Awards in the Residential Interiors category have been announced, recognising eight completed projects for excellence in spatial planning, functionality, material selection, craftsmanship and response to context.

The BIP Global Interior Design Awards honour outstanding interior design across different sectors, scales and typologies globally. Open to interior design and architecture practices worldwide, the programme evaluates projects on the quality and merit of the work, across residential, hospitality, commercial, cultural, healthcare, retail, transport and mixed-use projects.

The 2026 residential interior design winners have been selected for the quality of their planning, material choices, detailing, craftsmanship and response to context. The jury also considered how well each project addressed its particular brief, whether renewing a historic building, interpreting regional culture, accommodating multigenerational life, or completing a fully furnished residential scheme. The selection comprises projects across Asia, the Middle East, Europe and the United States.

Congratulations to all the winners!

Villa Le Rac distinguishes itself through a deeply personal design approach that transforms family memories, daily rituals and shared experiences into a cohesive residential environment. The project illustrates how thoughtful planning, bespoke detailing and carefully curated materiality can establish a distinctive character without relying on overt expressions of luxury.

The jury liked the integration of custom elements throughout the residence, from the sculptural semi‑spiral staircase and the custom-designed ONDAL chair to tailored display systems that allow personal collections and memories into daily life. Equally compelling is the project’s ability to balance intimacy with openness, creating spaces that foster both family interaction and individual retreat.

Bareo employed materials such as Yakisugi wood, marble and finely crafted timber details with restraint, adding depth and character without overwhelming the interior. The jury found the project’s greatest strength to be the consistency with which spatial planning, material selection and bespoke detailing were applied throughout the residence, creating a clear and cohesive design identity.

Albee House, Portland, USA

Typology: Historic Mansion

Subcategory: Heritage Renewal

Interior Designer: Jessica Helgerson Interior Design

Albee House is recognised for the care and judgement applied to the renewal of a significant historic interior. Jessica Helgerson Interior Design preserved the character of the 1912 residence while making substantial changes to support contemporary family life.

Original joinery, stained glass and formal rooms have been retained, while the kitchen, bathrooms and private spaces were reconfigured for present-day use. Bespoke murals, brass-leaf ceilings, painted panels and carefully selected furnishings extend the house’s decorative character without competing with its original architecture.

The designers introduced substantial change without flattening the qualities the house has acquired over time, retaining the material richness and atmosphere that make it irreplaceable.

French Alps Ski Chalet, France

Typology: Chalet

Subcategory: Residential Renovation

Interior Designer: Kelly Hoppen Interiors

Kelly Hoppen Interiors has renewed the old chalet with a restrained palette suited to its Alpine location and its use as a holiday home for up to 16 guests. Pale timber, taupe textiles, dark metalwork and limited pattern give the interior a contemporary character while maintaining the warmth of a mountain residence.

Silver-grey timber extends across the sloping ceilings, exposed beams, walls and bespoke joinery, connecting rooms of different sizes and functions. Integrated lighting gives depth to the wood surfaces, while the new windows open the living spaces and bedrooms towards the surrounding mountains.

The chalet’s capacity is handled through generous communal rooms, a large kitchen and dining area, compact sleeping spaces and built-in storage. Vintage ski posters and black-and-white mountain photography refer to the location without dominating the interior. Materials, lighting, furniture and practical requirements have been resolved consistently throughout the home in this controlled renovation.

The Lanna Ecstasy, Thailand

Typology: Penthouse

Subcategory: Heritage & Cultural Design

Interior Designer: Bareo

The Lanna Ecstasy demonstrates a sophisticated understanding of how cultural heritage can be translated into contemporary living without slipping into pastiche. What sets the project apart is the integration of traditional Lanna and Thai architectural influences into the home’s spatial and functional experience, rather than reducing them to decorative motifs.

The jury is impressed with how Bareo’s adaptation of traditional “Ham Yon” ventilation elements into contemporary mechanical systems, the bespoke entrance doors that balance privacy, craftsmanship and symbolism and the thoughtful transformation of architectural constraints into memorable design features, most notably the exposed kitchen shaft reimagined as a sculptural copper-clad element.

The extensive use of custom-designed furniture, handcrafted lacquer and gold-leaf artistry, traditional wood detailing and carefully considered spatial reconfiguration reflects a deep commitment to authenticity and craftsmanship. Equally notable is the project’s ability to improve functionality through interventions such as replacing the original staircase and creating highly personalised spaces tailored to the owner’s lifestyle.

While rich in cultural references, the design remains disciplined and coherent, avoiding the visual excess often associated with heritage-inspired interiors.

Each residence is delivered as a finished home. White oak floors with bronze inlays, concealed lighting, woven wall coverings, Molteni&C kitchens, marble bathrooms and selected furniture are incorporated into the design from the outset. The quality of the detailing and specification carries through from the apartments to the amenity floors.

The interiors suit both the Art Deco character of the Fifth Avenue building and the level of service associated with Mandarin Oriental. Despite the extensive hospitality provision, the apartments retain a calm, domestic quality. MAWD’s work merits recognition for bringing interior architecture, furniture, finishes and amenities together in a turnkey scheme of uncommon thoroughness.

One Swan Bay has won for carrying a consistent design approach across its shared spaces and two distinct residential layouts.

The river setting informs the circulation, curved surfaces, materials, colours and commissioned artwork without becoming a literal decorative theme. The Sky Club House has a stronger ceremonial character, while the apartments are quieter and more closely attuned to family life, natural light and the extensive views.

Steve Leung Design Group and Steve Leung Lifestyle have connected the development’s public and private interiors through a consistent material palette and contemporary references to Lingnan culture, grounding the design in Guangzhou.

The OWO Residences by Raffles, United Kingdom

Typology: Multi-Residential

Subcategory: Heritage Conversion

Interior Designer: 1508 London

Converting the former Old War Office into private residences called for interiors that could accommodate contemporary domestic life within rooms of exceptional scale and historic formality. 1508 London used the building’s 4.4-metre ceilings, full-height windows, decorative plasterwork, fireplaces and strong architectural proportions as the basis for the residential scheme.

The new work is clearly contemporary but does not compete with the Edwardian interiors. Bespoke Smallbone cabinetry, Perla Venata surfaces, Crema Marfil flooring, dark timber, metal detailing and modern lighting have been introduced with close attention to the scale of the existing rooms. In the principal living spaces, furniture groupings make the large volumes feel suitable for everyday occupation.

The commission extends beyond the individual homes to residents’ lounges, a cinema and wellness facilities. This wider scope gives the conversion coherence as a multi-residential development and supports the transition from a government building to private accommodation. The project is recognised for making a monumental listed interior convincingly residential while retaining the architectural qualities that give the building its significance.
