Seven months after launching Manchester City Yas Residences, Ohana Development has broken ground on the AED 15bn ($6.1bn) scheme in Abu Dhabi. The UAE residential developer plans more than 2,000 homes on Yas Canal, adjacent to Yas Island. It is Manchester City’s first branded residential development.

Ohana also opened an Experience Centre at the 25 September groundbreaking, giving prospective buyers a closer look at the masterplan, homes and finishes. In March, the company reported AED 6bn in sales within 72 hours of the sales launch.

The gated community will span 1.67 million sq m, with four- and five-bedroom standalone villas, twin villas, townhouses, maisonettes, waterfront penthouses and apartments. Plans announced in February placed the villas in six clusters and included a canal promenade with shops and restaurants.

Football will have a presence beyond the project’s name. A Manchester City training academy is planned with pitches and areas for tactical and fitness training. The proposed Match Day Terrace, City Lounge and City Café will sit alongside a marina sports club with facilities for kayaking, paddleboarding and sailing.

Ohana has also included a hotel, education and healthcare services in the masterplan. It says more than 55% of the development will be devoted to landscaped gardens and green spaces. Plans for the fitness and recovery facilities include pools, hydrotherapy, cryotherapy and oxygen therapy.

The developer expects to deliver the community in phases by 2029.
