Pierre-Yves Rochon has renovated the interiors of Palazzo Dandolo and Palazzo Casa Nuova at Hotel Danieli in Venice, using colours associated with the lagoon across its public spaces, rooms and suites.

The two palazzi have reopened under Four Seasons in July 2026 with 120 rooms and suites, including 52 suites. Restoration continues at Palazzo Danieli Excelsior, the third building in the complex. Once that work is completed in 2027, the hotel is expected to have 168 rooms and suites. A spa with three treatment rooms, a sauna and hammam is due to open in late 2026.

The hotel is owned by Gruppo Statuto, an Italian hotel developer, and managed by luxury hospitality operator Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts. The companies announced their management agreement in 2022.

Lagoon colours shape the renovated interiors

Rochon based the palette on colours found in the Venetian Lagoon and the city’s architecture. Celadon green and soft blue appear alongside terracotta, ochre and powder pink. Venetian mirrors and other reflective surfaces enhance the light, depth and perspective within the interiors.

The palette first appears in the Palazzo Dandolo lobby. Its hand-painted ceiling has been restored with gilding tracing a quatrefoil pattern against an azure background. Craftspeople also restored the columns, stonework and grand staircase.

Within the renovated palazzi, Rochon used Murano glass, terrazzo flooring and bespoke textiles by Venetian fabric company Rubelli. Intaglios, Venetian engravings and antiqued mirrors form part of an art collection inspired by the Grand Tour.

Palazzo Dandolo became a hotel in 1822 under Giuseppe Dal Niel, who named it Danieli after his nickname. Palazzo Casa Nuova, once home to the Treasury of the Venetian Republic, was incorporated into the hotel in 1855. Palazzo Danieli Excelsior followed in 1950.

The accommodation at Palazzo Dandolo and Palazzo Casa Nuova now features more spacious layouts, with an expanded collection of junior and one-bedroom suites. Rooms overlook the lagoon, canals or surrounding rooftops, while many suites can be combined with connecting rooms.

In-room televisions are incorporated into media walls displaying artworks and decorative objects. Automated curtains, adjustable lighting settings and climate controls have also been added.

The Presidential Suite occupies the fourth floor of Palazzo Dandolo and overlooks the lagoon and San Giorgio Maggiore. Its living area contains a dining table for six and an adjoining powder room. Some of the hotel’s one-bedroom suites can be expanded into two-bedroom accommodation.

Pastels and mirrors lighten Terrazza Danieli

Rochon also redesigned Restaurant Terrazza Danieli, the rooftop dining room overlooking the lagoon and San Giorgio Maggiore. Its former dark finishes have been replaced with pastel shades, azure details and muted gold tones.

Mirrored surfaces amplify the natural light and reflect views across the lagoon. On the outdoor terrace, terracotta shades echo the hotel’s historic façade. The restaurant’s architectural identity has been retained while its colours and finishes have changed.
