nPlan, a construction forecasting and risk management technology company, has won the 2026 BIP Global Innovation & PropTech Award in the AI & Data Innovation category and Schedule Intelligence subcategory.
The BIP Global Innovation & PropTech Awards honour forward-thinking technologies, platforms and digital solutions shaping the future of the built environment. Part of the Best International Project platform, the awards recognise innovation across the building lifecycle, from design and construction to transactions, operations and user experience.
nPlan won for developing AI models that use historical construction data to forecast project risks, identify likely causes of delay and challenge scheduling assumptions.
Drawing on more than 750,000 historical construction schedules, its technology has been used on projects ranging from a major Boston hospital extension to HS2’s London tunnels and the UK’s Transpennine Route Upgrade.
AI models learn from historical construction schedules

nPlan’s machine-learning models are trained on historical construction schedules representing more than $2tn in construction spend and over two billion individual activities.
These schedules cover commercial and public buildings, transport infrastructure, utilities, data centres and other construction sectors. The dataset records activity descriptions, durations, sequencing, dependencies and changes to programmes over time.
nPlan’s AI treats a construction schedule as a network of connected activities. Its models examine the relationships between individual tasks and learn from how similar activities have progressed in previous projects.
The company has also developed construction-specific language models that interpret written activity descriptions alongside scheduling data. The models assess what each task involves and where it appears in the construction schedule.
When a current schedule is analysed, the software estimates uncertainty for individual activities and calculates the probability of different milestone and completion dates.
nPlan works with existing schedules from Oracle, Powerproject and Microsoft Project, allowing teams to assess programmes already in use.
Historical evidence challenges scheduling assumptions
Schedule-risk assessments often depend on estimates provided by project teams. Optimism, commercial pressures, or limited experience of comparable projects can influence professional judgement.
nPlan’s AI tests current schedules against patterns identified in previous construction programmes. Planners can compare their assumptions with historical delivery outcomes when reviewing proposed completion dates and individual activities.
The models also assess how delays in one part of a programme could affect work elsewhere. nPlan’s Driving Paths feature identifies the critical path and subcritical paths that could threaten project milestones.
Teams can upload existing risk registers and compare the concerns they have already recorded with risks identified by the software. The comparison can expose overlooked activities, dependencies, or delivery risks.
The Schedule Integrity Checker detects weaknesses in a construction programme before forecasting.
Forecasts identify where project delays may develop

nPlan identifies the activities and delivery paths most likely to affect project milestones and completion dates. The findings can highlight risks involving sequencing, procurement, resources, or site access.
Its Mitigation Strategies feature tests whether different interventions could improve the chances of meeting a completion date.
nPlan Portfolio applies the company’s forecasting models across multiple projects. Managers can compare delivery risks between programmes and identify which projects need immediate attention.
BAM, a European construction and civil engineering group, became the launch partner for nPlan Portfolio, with plans to use the software across an initial portfolio of 50 projects. Its management team could compare schedule risks across multiple programmes.
nPlan Insights Pro and nPlan Portfolio also integrate with Microsoft Power BI. Project teams can display forecasts, uncertainty ranges and identified risks in existing dashboards.
The company’s technology is used on live construction and infrastructure projects worth more than $500bn.
Healthcare and infrastructure projects use nPlan forecasts
Suffolk, a US construction company, used nPlan’s AI forecasting and risk management technology during the construction of an 11-storey extension for a major Boston hospital.
The building covers more than 550,000ft2 and includes new hospital beds, a neonatal intensive care unit and a hybrid operating suite. The operating suite includes a trolley MRI capable of moving along a ceiling-mounted steel rail.
Suffolk had to coordinate specialist healthcare facilities and technical equipment across the construction programme.
In the UK, SCS JV, a joint venture involving Skanska, Costain and STRABAG, has used nPlan Insights Pro on the London tunnels section of HS2. The project team uses the software to identify schedule risks in a tunnelling programme involving multiple tunnel-boring machines.
nPlan has also been used on the Transpennine Route Upgrade, covering a 122km railway corridor between Manchester and York. The route serves 23 stations and includes 285 bridges and viaducts.
The programme involves track improvements, electrification, new platforms and station accessibility works. The project team also uses nPlan to assess planned railway access periods for construction work.
About nPlan
Founded in 2017 and based in London, nPlan develops AI forecasting and risk management software for construction and infrastructure projects.
Its products include nPlan Insights Pro, nPlan Portfolio, Schedule Studio and Schedule Integrity Checker. Schedule Studio uses generative AI to prepare construction programmes from project-scope documents.
The company’s software supports project owners, contractors, planners, risk managers and portfolio teams with schedule analysis, forecasting, programme preparation and project oversight.
