Construction has begun on the Alila Sengokuhara Hakone, a 60-room luxury resort in Sengokuhara, Hakone, designed by Kengo Kuma & Associates. The project will introduce Hyatt’s Alila brand to Japan for the first time.
Developed by Fujita Corporation, a Japanese construction company within the Daiwa House Group, the resort is taking shape in Sengokuhara, an area of Hakone known for its natural landscape. Fujita is serving as the project owner while also undertaking the design and construction of the hotel, which will be operated by Hyatt Hotels.
The resort has been conceived to respond to the character of the surrounding landscape in Sengokuhara.

Kengo Kuma & Associates is leading the architectural design, joined by SIMPLICITY, a Japanese interior design studio, for the interiors and PlaceMedia, a Japanese landscape architecture practice, for the landscape design.
The resort will occupy a site of approximately 19,365m2, about a 25-minute drive from Hakone-Yumoto Station. Plans call for a building footprint of approximately 5,100m2 and a total floor area of 10,283m2.
The reinforced concrete building, with partial steel framing, will comprise guest rooms arranged across two above-ground storeys and two basement levels.
Facilities will include a hot spring spa, restaurant and bar, meeting and event spaces, and a yoga deck. The resort is scheduled to open in 2028.
