Engineering and architecture consultancy Sweco and multi-disciplinary architecture practice LINK Arkitektur, a subsidiary of Multiconsult, have secured a contract to plan and design a new emergency hospital campus in Helsingborg, Sweden.

The contract worth SEK 325 million ($34.5m) was awarded by Region Skåne for programme development and early-stage planning work.

The assignment covers the planning and design of a new hospital campus that will replace Helsingborg’s existing main hospital area, as part of the emerging urban district of Östra Ramlösa. The wider district is expected to combine housing, green infrastructure and public services.

The project is among the largest healthcare infrastructure developments undertaken in Sweden in recent decades. It is being planned with an emphasis on operational flexibility, functionality and sustainability. The scope centres on early programme development, with options for continued involvement in later phases depending on project progression.

Population growth in Helsingborg is driving demand for expanded healthcare infrastructure. The new campus is intended to consolidate emergency care provision, while supporting the city’s long-term healthcare needs.

Work on the assignment is expected to begin in September 2026, with completion of the hospital planned for the latter part of the 2030s. LINK Arkitektur’s share in the contract is valued at approximately $10.6m, if all options are exercised. Sweco’s potential order value is estimated at $24m between 2026 and 2035.

Sweco’s healthcare planning and design experience spans hospital design, optimisation and healthcare infrastructure advisory work across multiple European markets, including Belgium, Finland, Luxembourg, Germany, Norway and Sweden.

Headquartered in Oslo, Link Arkitektur is Scandinavia’s largest architecture firm and has operations in Norway, Sweden and Denmark.
