Trex, the world’s largest manufacturer of wood-alternative decking and residential railing, has extended the availability of its Trex® Refuge™ decking line into the northeastern United States. Initially launched in select regions in January this year, the limited-release PVC decking line was designed to meet strict fire-safety regulations in areas with heightened ignition risk.
The expansion aims to reach consumers and contractors in regions where PVC decking is commonly used, providing the same durability, low-maintenance features, and design flexibility as other Trex decking products.
PVC decking offers durability and fire safety
PVC decking is a synthetic alternative to traditional wood or wood-composite decking. It is generally resistant to moisture, rot, warping, and splintering, and can offer low-maintenance performance in regions with extreme weather or fire-safety requirements.
Trex’s Refuge™ line combines these material properties with additional fire-resistant engineering to meet building code requirements in certain areas.
Engineered safety and regional design preferences

The Refuge™ decking is engineered to resist ignition and slow flame spread, meeting Class A Flame Spread standards under ASTM E84 and complying with IWUIC ASTM E2768 ignition-resistance requirements. The product is available in two colour options: Point Reyes, a coastal grey with subtle undertones, and Martis Valley, a light beige with golden highlights.
Boards are offered in 16-foot and 20-foot lengths with solid, square-edge profiles compatible with existing Trex® Fascia and installation systems, including Trex Hideaway® Fasteners. The decking is manufactured in the US and is designed to resist fading, staining, scratching, warping, rotting, or splintering.
Regional preferences shape Trex’s expansion strategy
Trex emphasises that regional differences in decking preferences are central to its growth strategy. By broadening the reach of the Refuge™ line, the company is responding to contractor and consumer demand in the northeast, while maintaining compliance with building codes requiring fire-resistant materials.
Trex Refuge™ decking is available only in selected regions. The product carries a 50-year Limited Residential Warranty.
